Our Story
The Koko Platz Recreation Club is a community-run, non-profit organization in Portage La Prairie that provides recreation facilities for the region. It serves as a gathering place for recreation, social activities, and outdoor skating, fostering community engagement year-round. Koko Platz Recreation Club is the only remaining community club left in Portage La Prairie, operating since the 1960's and incorportated as a non-profit organization in 1975.
In 2021, the clubhouse was lost in a devastating fire, leaving the community with no outdoor skating facilities. But after years of hard work and tremendous community support, raising over $800,000, the Koko Platz Recreation Club is set to reopen the facility Winter 2025.
We look forward to welcoming the community back to this great space this winter. Our community centre is a volunteer-run facility, supported by the City of Portage La Prairie, and serving the entire region. We receive funding through grants, support from the Portage Regional Recreation Authority, and through community donations. Our goal as a community centre is to create a welcoming community gathering place that will provide low cost recreation for all.
